CAFEH Advisory Board Meeting
At this meeting of the advisory board, attendees heard updated findings from the CAFEH study and learned about the team’s new Kresge-funded policy and practice initiative.
Allison Patton, PhD presented her thesis work on modeling air pollution levels in the CAFEH study area. Kevin Lane, a PhD candidate at BU School of Public Health, presented his thesis work on using time activity to estimate study participants air pollution exposure levels and building statistical models to associate these exposures with various cardiovascular outcomes.
Doug Brugge, PhD, MS presented on the preliminary work the Kresge-funded initiative has done on influencing building practice in Chinatown and policy in Somerville (including their recent expert elicitation event) to be cognizant of near-highway air pollution.
About 50 individuals were in attendance, representing the different schools of Tufts University, Immigrant Services Providers Group/Health, City of Somerville, Josiah Quincy Upper School, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Chinese Progressive Association, Somerville Transportation Equity Partnership, Chinatown Residents Association, Massachusetts Cultural Data Project, Boston University School of Public Health, University of Massachusetts Boston, Harvard School of Public Health, University of Southern California, Tufts Medical Center, HMFH Architects, Inc., Massachusetts Department of Public Health, Asian Community Development Corporation, Boston Children’s Hospital, Sing Tao Daily, Cambridge Health Alliance, Massachusetts House of Representatives, and Committee for Boston Public Housing.
